Our Part – a Daily Decision

Sisters and Brothers!

As I woke up each day a song played in my head like a tape recorder, going something like “Dynamic! Fantastic! Super slick, enthusiastic… Worship to the King, to the King!” – I can’t get it out of my head and I drive my family crazy singing it.  Thank you Lord for Hannah!

The Lord reminded me, as I go through each day following a routine of work and helping the kids, that certain things may not “happen” or appear to us as we would like them and when we would like. Like me, I expect the “fireworks” of the Lord to appear on command in an instant, but I realize more and more that they will arrive when we are ready, but more than that – when God is ready.  When we, like the 5 Virgins who had oil in their lamps ready for the Groom to appear, were “waiting fully prepared”- they enjoyed the benefits of their patience and persistence.

I was led to these words from Luke 9:23 “And he said to all, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”  Carrying a cross is not the most fun thing in the world.   I would prefer not to.  This was a gentle reminder that our relationship with the Father is a deliberate one – we have to make the daily decision to sit at his feet and speak to him as his child and friend.

Do not grow weary!

Juhee – figure out the “white robe.”    Urian – master the Sword.  Hannah – discover the joy of being a Menthos – hard shell on the outside, but soft on the inside.  Seungeun – seek the plan and project of the Lord.  Caroline – remember the alabaster jar.  Hyoshin – walk with Him and see Him.  John – enter the joy and boldness of being His son.

I hope and pray for each of you to take up your crosses daily.  The Groom approaches.

Peace,
Mark

  1. That’s just amazing! Earlier this week, my friend and I were talking about carrying our own crosses as well. We were reflecting on what our crosses represented in our respective lives. This is still a question to me. What exactly is my cross? Hmm…

    Something to reflect on…

  2. True! For me, part of it is the discipline to sit at His feet every day. Sometimes it is a true joy and an awesome experience… other times, the enemy tempts me when I’m physically tired to skip it and sleep more. The balance is then knowing when the Lord, our Father – the daddy – allows us to rest in Him and when he calls us to “wage war.”
