  • Bible Timeline: Where Every Book Fits

Ever wondered where Jonah fits next to Isaiah, or when Ezra and Nehemiah lived compared to Daniel? This Bible Timeline lays the books of the Bible out on a single page, from the Early Bible period (exact dates uncertain) through 1000 BC, across the centuries to 0, and on to 70 AD.

How to read it: the color key at the top left explains the three layers. The gray band in the middle marks the dates. The green bars are the books of the Bible, placed above and below the dates. The tan bands along the bottom show the state of the nation: Early Days, Nation of Israel, Israel Split (North + South), Exile, Israelites Under Rule, and a Jewish State (100 BC – AD 3). On the right are the New Testament books: the Gospels and Acts, Paul’s letters, the other letters, and Revelation.

Keep it open next to your Bible as you read. Before starting a book, find it on the chart to see what was happening to the nation at the time and which other books belong to the same period. It works well for personal study, small groups, and teaching. Click the image to see it full size, or download your own copy below.
